Root Canal Therapy in Tyler, TX
What Is a Root Canal?
A root canal is a restorative treatment used to address an infected tooth. When bacteria enter the center of the tooth, where the dental pulp is located, due to untreated tooth decay or dental trauma, the pulp becomes inflamed and forms an abscess, which is a pocket of pus.
This indicates that your tooth is infected and requires root canal therapy to prevent the infection from worsening and spreading to other teeth or through the bloodstream. To treat the infection, we will remove the infected pulp and roots, thoroughly clean the inside canals, and then refill the tooth with a special material to restore its strength and structure. The tooth can survive without its dental pulp by obtaining nutrients from the surrounding tissues.

Anterior Root Canals
Anterior root canals are performed on the front teeth. Although less common, the procedure for these thinner teeth with fewer canals is slightly different. To access the pulp chamber, we create an access hole at the back of the tooth because there isn't enough space on the chewing surfaces.
Once the infected pulp and roots are removed, we clean the canals. The front teeth usually have fewer canals, allowing us to complete the process faster and with fewer appointments. Since these teeth are not used for chewing, they typically only require a permanent filling instead of a crown.
